I joined the TeenFlight Program in 2015 to provide an educational structure to an already exceptional experience. I recruited students from over a dozen high schools to participate in the program. Twice a week, we meet up and build a Van’s RV-12 kit plane with the help of amazing mentors with a lifetime of experience. I’m learning a lot, too. One day per week, I teach a lesson on some aspect of aviation, such as lift and drag, aviation weather, glide ratios, bird flight, etc. Mentors assist with the build process and I have learned a lot about metal and rivet-built aircraft.
